Onkyo HT-S3500 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker/Receiver Package
First of all, this is my first surround sound system so you do not have a lot of history to compare with.
And many others.
Start the installation - very simple. Just unzip the receiver and speakers and hook them all. The speakers are color coded for each speaker and a speaker in front and back for my PS3 and HD cable, I hooked them into the receiver via HDMI and ran HDMI. TV from the end.
- The screen is very easy to install and fairly easy to use. Options for each category are not always easy, however.
Multi-mode - pretty easy to hear the different circuits and try them all.
- A convenient front USB port to connect iPod to play music. You can then remotely control the music through the receiver.
- Speakers and the sub is passive, but puts out a decent amount of bass. I have a way to make it to where I live in an apartment with neighbors below.
Cons (I'm not too worried about this. It is important to others).
As with most of its speakers and seems to be enough And now it works. But it could be replaced.
- Leave a little 'heat to make sure you have some ventilation space above it. The sticker on top that can get quite hot when it is.
Heat a little 'odor of ozone, while it is running. I think this is starting to fade, and I hope it will not be visible after some time.
- Speakers have no holes for the mounting screws. A through hole and the slit for the hook. I'll be standing by to infect these stickers.
- The production of wire in the rear of the receiver and speakers are spring clip. Again, I think this is pretty standard for this price range.
- The setting is not always easy to use. I read most of the manuals included (on CD) to understand all of the highest value. The good news is that the cells are well written and does a good job of explaining everything.
- Not at night. (Dynamic Compression), that option is. It works only in Dolby 5.1 is not just my wife goes to bed at night, so I will not be used for low volume listening. Depending on the composition / Dolby 5.1 sound system source is always the option of listening to the receiver, though. For example, my cable is in On-Demand 5.1, but the program does not seem to be listening, so I can use it at night, with live TV on-demand, but not destroyed.
No equalizer. You can adjust the bass and treble and the sound by raising or lowering the decibels. But you can not adjust the frequency of each individual. (I found that one already).
Other thoughts.
Overall I was very happy with this system. It meets my needs. May not be sufficient for some. A microphone or an automated system for calibrating a surround sound. But enter the setup menu and adjust the distance you sit from each speaker calibration. It seems to work quite well I see the war, and a helicopter and bullets flying around me when I say that the amount of film to be too low. I just raised the decibels of the center channel, and now sounds much better.
I live in a condo with a living room of irregular shape with a voice that is not ideal. I also have the lower facing down and for the neighbors. I moved into a house in the next two weeks with a separate TV room 12'x10 '(which is why I bought it) I'll update this review in a few weeks after I started.
